Art is imitating life again.

CNN personality and former tabloid editor Piers Morgan is going to try his hand at producing a drama about the British tabloid business in the 1970s.

Morgan has signed on as an executive producer of “Fleet Street,” a drama pilot in development at the pay-TV cable channel Starz.

“Imagine an industry where every single opponent worked in the same street, competing with each other by day -- drinking, brawling, fornicating, nightclubbing and cocaine-snorting with each other by night. A street full of the most ruthless and amoral people in the world existed, and it was called Fleet Street,” Morgan in a statement.

“Fleet Street” will be produced by Lionsgate, the company behind the AMC hit “Mad Men.” Also involved is Richard Branson’s Virgin Produced and Morgan’s Ferret Productions. Morgan’s manager John Ferriter is also an executive producer.

Morgan was an editor the now-defunct News of the World and the Sun and author of “The Insider: The Private Diaries of a Scandalous Decade.” He now hosts a prime-time talk show on CNN.
