TV ratings: ‘Masterchef Junior’ boosts Fox; CBS wins overall

The season premiere of “Masterchef Junior” on Fox elevated the network to No. 1 in the key 18-to-49-year-old demographic.

According to Nielsen, the Gordon Ramsay show posted a rating of 1.8 in the key demo, its highest rating ever. It was second most watched in the key demo and up 13% from last fall’s series debut. It rounded out the top five overall with about 5-million viewers.

Fox’s “New Girl” benefited from the “Masterchef Junior” lead-in. “New Girl” posted a rating of 1.6 in the key demo, up 33% from its most recent original episode. It averaged 3.4-million viewers.

“The Mindy Project” also saw a boost. The sitcom, which averaged 2.9-million viewers, earned a rating of 1.3 in the key demo, up 18% from its most recent original episode.

Overall, the network earned a rating of 1.6 in the key demo and was third overall with 4.1-million viewers.

Meanwhile, NBC took second in the key demo with a rating of 1.5. It was also second overall with about 6.1-million viewers.

“The Voice” was most watched in the key demo with a rating of 2.3. It averaged 9.5-million viewers.

“Marry Me” dropped 13% from last week with a rating of 1.3 in the key demo. It averaged 4.9-million viewers. It tied for sixth in the key demo with “The Mindy Project.”

“About a Boy” also saw a slight decline of about 8% from last week and tied its series low with a rating of 1.1 in the key demo. About 4.1-million viewers tuned in.

About 4.3-million people watched NBC News’ coverage of the midterm elections. The broadcast earned a rating of 1.0 in the key demo.

CBS ended up on top in total viewers, averaging 9 million with help from its election coverage.

“NCIS” was most watched overall with 11.7-million viewers in its 9 p.m. timeslot. It earned a rating of 1.5 in the key demo.

“NCIS: New Orleans” was second, averaging 10-million viewers. It earned a slightly lower rating of 1.4 in the key demo.

The network’s election coverage on CBS News earned a rating of 0.8 but was the fourth most watched broadcast overall with 5.3-million viewers.

On ABC, back-to-back episodes of “Selfie” posted ratings of 1.0 and 0.9 in the key demo. Together, the episodes averaged about 3.7-million viewers.

A special called “Marvel: 75 Years From Pulp to Pop” averaged a rating of 1.2 in the key demo. It rounded out the top 10 most-watched programs of the night with about 3.8-million viewers.

ABC News’ “2014: Your Voice Your Vote” special posted a rating of 0.8 in the key demo. About 3.5-million people tuned in.

The network was fifth in the key demo with a rating of 0.6.
