RealD opens office in Russia

RealD, the Beverly Hills supplier of 3-D equipment and glasses, said Tuesday it will open its first office in Russia later this month.

The new office, which will handles sales, customer service and exhibitor relations, will increase the company’s presence “across Russia’s emerging landscape,” RealD said in a statement.

Russia is one of the fastest-growing markets for cinema and 3-D deployment. The number of 3-D screens increased by more than 200% over the last two years, according to IHS Screen Digest. Total box-office sales in Russia increased to a record level of more than $1.1 billion in 2011.

“Today’s moviegoers have come to expect the premium 3-D visual experience RealD delivers, and we look forward to furthering the reach of RealD across Russia’s growing premium-cinema market,”
said Robert Mayson, managing director RealD Europe.

The announcement was made during Russia’s KinoExpo 2012, an international trade show for the exhibition industry.

RealD is the world’s largest supplier of 3-D equipment with offices in Boulder, Colo.; London, Tokyo, Hong Kong and Shanghai. Its 3-D equipment is used by about 900 exhibitors in 68 countries.
