Robert Downey Jr. re-ups for ‘Avengers’; will we see him elsewhere?

Share

Robert Downey Jr.’s four Marvel movies have grossed an astounding $3.9 billion. So it’s no surprise that the studio wants two more.

The company announced Thursday that it has locked down just that, re-upping its deal with the man who plays Tony Stark for two more “Avengers” films. (No word of any progress on the “Iron Man 4” front.)

“Avengers 2” is set to begin shooting next spring, with Joss Whedon returning behind the camera; the film will be released in May 2015.

As our sister blog Hero Complex notes, Downey has grown comfortable with the Stark character. “We fit each other pretty snug, and I feel like when I’m him I know what to do,” he told the blog recently.

Though welcome news to Marvel fans, the gigs further fills Downey’s acting schedule. Even without “Iron Man 4,” he’ll still be plenty busy in the next few years.

Still, there’s some non-Stark Downey on the way: He’s currently shooting the legal-themed “The Judge” for David Dobkin and this summer will reunite with Jon Favreau for mystery restaurant pic “Chef.”
