Musical performances that air on live television often give you a taste of the performance but hardly satiate your hunger for more songs. But thanks to Myspace and “Jimmy Kimmel Live!,” that’s about to change.

The two are joining forces to bring live concerts to a worldwide audience, utilizing the music performance spaces of “Kimmel” and the social media platform that is Myspace.

The series will kick off Tuesday with Empire of the Sun (the band’s new album, “Ice on the Dune,” comes out the same day). To watch the concert from the “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” stream all you have to do is go onto Myspace.

TIMELINE: Summer’s must see concerts

Myspace -- note the lowercase “s” -- re-launched last Wednesday as an interactive music platform, drawing on the social media network’s stronghold before it took a temporary hiatus.

The new site provides a stronger way for fans to find emerging artists, keep track of those they like, and share this information with others. It also provides a better way for artists to promote their music and hone in on what their fans like most.

“Jimmy Kimmel Live!” is known for its emphasis on music, creating concert experiences featuring both big-name artists and up-and-comers in its concert series.

The concert series, which has been in the works for over a year, is a collaborative effort between the two brands.

“Since the beginning, we have really focused on music at ‘Kimmel,’” says Doug DeLuca, co-executive producer of the show. “But it always bummed us out, that [the bands] did a great set, but we’ve never utilized all of the off-air tracks.”

Looking for a way to give audiences more than just what they see on the aired set, the show was addressed by “a couple strong, digital music platforms,” but Myspace really stood out, especially with the company’s redesign.

“As we started to shape and define the new Myspace, we shared it with Doug [DeLuca], and he really saw the potential within the new platform,” says Christian Parkes, vice president of global marketing at Myspace.

Utilizing their outdoor concert venues, Empire of the Sun will be the guinea pig for this highly coveted spot on both television and Web.

“They have a really passionate community and audience, but there’s also a whole world of people who don’t know who they are,” says Parkes of Empire of the Sun.

Empire of the Sun is known for hits like “We are the People” and for a memorable live experience that includes background visuals and costumes.

“Their performances are so visual and outrageous, it’s a perfect fit,” says Parkes.

Expect a mix of artists to headline these concerts, and as Deluca says, “We’ll pick bands with a great digital following that are up and coming, but we’ll also run the gamut up to A-list artists.”

Along with two brands who so greatly utilize digital -- the Web being the home of Myspace, and Kimmel’s digital presence on You Tube, whose channel recently passed its billionth view -- there is an equal amount of importance placed on the bands themselves to occupy the digital sphere, in order to bring the relationship with fans full circle.

Deluca mentioned the possibility for live fan chats before the concerts, and Myspace will include an area on the Web stream for fans to react and interact about the concerts. You will also be able to stream the archives of past concerts on the website.

For now these concerts will happen about once monthly, with potential to occur more frequently. Stay tuned for more details.
