South Park Studios loses power, misses deadline for new show

Share

It’s lights out for “South Park” episode 1704, “Goth Kids 3: Dawn of the Posers.”

South Park Studios lost power on Tuesday night, and with their computers down for hours the team could not animate, render, edit or work on sound. As a result they couldn’t finish Wednesday night’s scheduled episode, which is a first in “South Park” history.

“Scott Tenorman Must Die” will air in its place, and the South Park team will be live-tweeting the show.

“South Park” already tweeted the news to its fans, writing: “Last night, #SouthPark lost power. All computers were down & we were unable to finish the new episode.”

Soon after that the team posted the following: “TONIGHT- we’re doing back-to-back LIVE TWEETS of ‘World War Zimmerman’ & ‘Scott Tenorman Must Die’ starting at 9:30p EST! #SouthPark”

#SouthParkBlackout has become a thing on Twitter, with fans Tweeting things like, “Could this day get any worse? #SouthParkBlackout,” and “#SouthParkBlackout is a nightmare come to life!!!”

Surely that was the case at South Park Studios on Tuesday night when it dawned on the team that they were going to miss their deadline for the new episode. The show is famous for finalizing episodes at the final hour, so nobody was too surprised such a thing could happen.

“It sucks to miss an air date but after all these years of tempting fate by delivering the show last minute, I guess it was bound to happen,” said co-creator Trey Parker.
