An exhibit of footwear, including around 200 pairs of shoes representing 20 countries and 2,000 years, is set to open Saturday at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. It’s aptly titled “Shoes: Pleasure and Pain.” According to the museum’s website, the exhibit ranges “from a sandal decorated in pure gold leaf originating from ancient Egypt to the most elaborate designs by contemporary makers. It will consider the cultural significance and transformative capacity of shoes and will examine the latest developments in footwear technology creating the possibility of ever higher heels and dramatic shapes.” The exhibit is scheduled to be open through the end of January.
