Loudmouth creates whiskered wardrobe for Mustache Open

Share

The folks at Loudmouth Golf have designed a limited-edition capsule collection of bold, facial-hair festooned apparel for the organizers of the Mustache Open golf competition (slogan: “Golfing with a mustache ... it’s just plain funnier!”).

Consisting of trousers, shorts, mini-shorts (for the ladies) and a bangin’ sports coat, each emblazoned with the carnival-colored silhouettes and names of some of the most iconic cookie dusters (including handlebar, walrus, Fu Manchu, the gunslinger and the tycoon), the collection is priced from $65 to $350 and is available online at www.MustacheOpen.com.

Sonoma, Calif.-based Loudmouth, you may recall, outfitted the U.S. Olympic men’s beach volleyball team at the 2012 London games, and famously made the argyle-patterned pants that made the Norwegian curling team the sartorial standouts of the 2010 Winter Games.

Although the whiskered wares are available to all, there’s one set of tonsorial togs that can’t be bought but only won -- the pair of Mustache Open leisure robes that will be presented to the winning two-man team that will be crowned the 2013 Mustache Open champions.

The annual series of golf two-man scramble tournaments was started in 1999 by an enthusiastic mustachioed fellow by the name of Clifton S. Waterbury III, and this year’s scrambles will take place in Scottsdale, Ariz.; Lincoln, Neb.; Orlando, Floa.; and right here in Los Angeles (additional information, including the full schedule can be found at the organization’s website), before culminating in a Las Vegas tournament.

And before you roll your eyes and simply dismiss the golf outing as so much follicular folderol, we should point out that the Mustache Open partners with, and donates a portion of proeeeds to, a local charity in each host city (a program Waterbury’s dubbed MIMBY or “mustaches in my back yard”).
