World Cup dining: Can anyone tell us a great Dutch restaurant?

We asked them, but they were stumped too.

Spain v. Netherlands, Friday, noon.

This is the World Cup game all the real soccer fans are into, a rematch of the 2010 finalists in a group-stage contest. If you are in the habit of saying things like “tactical football,” outfit your children in Xavi jerseys or mourn the torn ACL of Kevin Strootman, this is obviously the one you’re going to watch.

Unfortunately, I have no idea where to experience the match in the company of Dutchmen. The expats I know are firmly devoted to Indonesian restaurants, which for historical reasons may not reciprocate the love in quite the same way, and while the Hollywood bistro La Poubelle, founded by a Dutchman, has pledged to open for all the games of Die Oranje, its Dutchness may not be immediately apparent. You could pretend that the tempura sardines are herring, I guess.

As is befitting their status as reigning champions, at least some Spaniards will be watching the game over deconstructed gin and tonics at Tres by José Andrés in the swank SLS hotel. Saumon a l’unilateral; tomato caviar; guacamole cones; croquetas with béchamel fritters – nothing is too good for the champs.

La Poubelle, 5907 Franklin Ave., Hollywood, (323) 465-0807.

Tres by José Andrés, 465 S. La Cienega Blvd., Beverly Hills, (310) 247-0400.
