Someone has until 5 p.m. to claim a $63-million lotto winning, or will lose it forever

The search for the holder of a $63-million SuperLotto Plus jackpot ticket officially ends at 5 p.m. today, along with the winner’s opportunity of ever claiming the top prize.

If the winner fails to show up at a lottery office by the end of the business day, the multimillion-dollar jackpot will be the largest unclaimed SuperLotto Plus ticket in the state’s history and would go into the state’s education fund.

In a last-ditch effort to claim the prize, Brandy Milliner, a Los Angeles County resident, filed legal documents Wednesday morning, claiming he had turned in the winning ticket to the California State Lottery Commission within the claim period. He said the commission even sent him a letter congratulating him for the winning ticket, but later reneged on his payment.

According to the L.A. County lawsuit, the commission sent a second notice in January, saying the ticket was “too damaged to be reconstructed” and his claim could not be processed. Milliner said the commission has declined to return the ticket.

Milliner is now asking a judge to declare him the winner.

Lottery officials have insisted that nobody has claimed the jackpot.

The winning ticket was purchased Aug. 8 at a 7-Eleven store at 20871 Lassen St. in Chatsworth. The winning numbers are 1-16-30-33-46, with a Mega number of 24.

In November, the California Lottery began searching for the winner of the unclaimed prize, announcing that he or she had 180 days from the drawing to claim the $63-million jackpot.

The current largest unclaimed prize is $28.5 million for a ticket sold in San Lorenzo in 2003.
