Detectives in two San Bernardino County cities are investigating two cases this week in which authorities believe men killed their wives and children before attempting to take their own lives. In one case, the man was successful in killing himself.

In Fontana, four family members -- including two children -- were found dead inside their home Monday night, discovered by a relative who had been unable to get in touch with them, police said.

San Bernardino County coroner’s officials identified them as Ramon Miranda, 38, and his wife, Silvia Miranda, 34, and their two children: Rayna, 10, and Ramon Jr., 12.

The wife and children each had multiple gunshot wounds, yet the father had a single gunshot wound to the head, leading authorities to believe it was a murder-suicide. One handgun was found in the home. The investigation is ongoing, Fontana police said, with detectives awaiting autopsy results.

On Wednesday, police in the city of San Bernardino found a woman and her 6-year-old daughter fatally stabbed after being called to the home by the woman’s ex-husband, who slit his wrists before officers arrived, authorities said.

The couple, although divorced, still lived together, and they were having an argument, police said. During the argument, police said Jordon Sartorio, 42, picked up a knife and began stabbing Miraflor Sartorio, 51, several times.

Their daughter, Jaira, woke up and started screaming. Police said Sartorio stabbed the girl, killing her.

Sartorio called the police himself to report the incident, authorities said. He was arrested and hospitalized with wounds that required surgery, but he was listed in stable condition.
