Child fatally hit in Santa Ana was not in crosswalk, police say
Two children hit by cars Wednesday night, one of them fatally, were not crossing the street in a marked crosswalk in Santa Ana, police said.
The 11-year-old girl and her brother, 8, were crossing near Bristol and 10th streets with seven other children and an adult near Santa Ana’s busy downtown Civic Center when they were hit, KTLA reported.
The girl was pronounced dead at UC Irvine Medical Center, said Cpl. Anthony Bertagna of the Santa Ana Police Department.
The boy had no pulse and was not breathing when firefighters arrived at the scene around 9 p.m, according to the Orange County Fire Authority.
Bertagna said the boy was being treated at UC Irvine Medical Center.
Fire authority Division Chief Kris Concepcion said the driver was at the scene when rescuers arrived. No other details were immediately available.
