Earthquake: 3.1 quake strikes northern Central Valley

A shallow magnitude 3.1 earthquake was reported Sunday morning in western Fresno County, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The temblor occurred at 6:06 a.m. at a depth of 1.9 miles.

According to the USGS, the epicenter was 16 miles from Los Banos, 26 miles from Mendota, 29 miles from Hollister and 126 miles from Sacramento.

In the last 10 days, there have been two earthquakes of magnitude 3.0 or greater centered nearby.
