Earthquake: 3.5 quake strikes near Niland

A shallow magnitude 3.5 earthquake was reported Monday morning nine miles from Niland, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The temblor occurred at 5:39 a.m. PDT at a depth of 0.6 miles.

According to the USGS, the epicenter was 16 miles from Brawley, 24 miles from Imperial and 28 miles from El Centro.

In the past 10 days, there have been six earthquakes magnitude 3.0 or greater centered nearby.
