Sex offender accused of fleeing after cutting off GPS device
Authorities on Tuesday were looking for a convicted sex offender who is suspected of cutting off his GPS monitoring device and making dozens of threatening and obscene phone calls to the family of an 80-year-old victim he raped.
Dennis Michael McKenzie, 55, was convicted in San Bernardino County and paroled to a halfway house in Long Beach, authorities said.
This month, McKenzie has “made more than 50 threatening and obscene phone calls to the family of an 80-year-old victim whom he brutally raped in 2004,” the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department said in a statement.
He was convicted on April 8, 2004, of sexual penetration with foreign object with force or fear and elder abuse, according to online San Bernardino County Superior Court records.
McKenzie has a history of frequenting the Lake Arrowhead area, Banning, Palm Springs and Long Beach, according to Sheriff’s Department officials.
He was living in the 2200 block of West Wardlow Road in Long Beach, according to a California Department of Justice online database.
