Coachella promoter calls suspected overdose death ‘isolated incident’
The death of a 24-year-old woman who died of an apparent overdose at the Coachella festival was an “isolated incident,” event promoter Goldenvoice said in a statement Friday.
The woman, identified as Kimchi Truong of Oakland, died of an apparent drug or alcohol overdose after attending the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in Indio last weekend, the Riverside County sheriff-coroner said Friday.
In a statement, Goldenvoice said it was “saddened” to learn of her death.
“We believe this to be an unfortunate but isolated incident,” the promoter said. “Our thoughts and condolences are with the family and friends.”
Truong was treated by on-site medical staff and then taken to JFK Memorial Hospital in Indio, according to the Goldenvoice statement.
She was later transported to Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs, where she remained until she died about 2:30 p.m. Thursday, said Sgt. Curt James of the sheriff-coroner’s office.
James said he believed this was the first death at the annual desert festival this year.
The office was still investigating, James said, and would run toxicology tests to determine what caused Troung’s death. Results will be available in about four weeks, he said.
