Undergrounding to affect Coast Royal area in Laguna Beach
Portions of streets in Laguna Beach’s Coast Royal neighborhood will be closed in the coming months to enable the undergrounding of utilities, according to a news release.
Work in the neighborhood, which includes Monterey, Brooks, Pedro, Holly and Ocean View streets as well as Ceanothus and Alta Loma drives, began Aug. 8 and involves the digging of trenches to hold conduits, city engineer Christina Templeton wrote in an email.
Residents may have restricted access from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays, the release said. The city has notified affected residents.
Trenches will be backfilled by February, after which crews will pull electrical wires through the conduits and remove overhead wires and poles, Templeton said. The city expects to complete the project by May 2018, according to the release.
