Boys’ basketball: Sophomore Deveral Ramsey, freshman Cody Riley star for Sierra Canyon

Two weeks into the high school basketball season, a young Chatsworth Sierra Canyon team is learning to handle the pressure pretty well.

With sophomore guard Devearl Ramsey scoring 25 points and 6-foot-8 freshman Cody Riley contributing 19 points, Sierra Canyon (5-0) held off Sylmar, 72-65, in a a Ventura County Classic game on Monday night at Royal. Sierra Canyon led by 12 points at halftime and had to withstand a 29-point performance by Sylmar’s Devenir Duruisseau.

Sherman Oaks Notre Dame defeated Oxnard, 76-61. Luca Ferrari had 23 points and seven rebounds. Riley Nicolle had 23 points for Oxnard. Calabasas defeated Santa Clara, 67-29. Larry Bush scored 13 points. Westlake defeated St. Bonaventure, 58-40. Isaiah Brooks had 19 points and Christian Marquez 16.

Christian Juzang had 22 points and Tim Howell scored 20 points in Viewpoint’s 69-49 win over Buena.

At Beverly Hills, Loyola defeated Hollywood, 79-36. Max Hazzard scored 15 points. Brentwood defeated Long Beach Cabrillo, 70-52. Tra Holder finished with 28 points and Yonathan Napoleon had 14. Beverly Hills defeated Hamilton, 73-45.

Tuesday’s Beverly Hills schedule: Taft vs. Palisades, 2 p.m.; Cabrillo vs. Hollywood, 3:30 p.m.; View Park vs. Dominguez, 5 p.m.; Birmingham vs. Leuzinger, 6:30 p.m.; Serra vs. Venice, 8 p.m.

In the Crescenta Valley tournament, Hart defeated Cleveland, 80-50. Myles Franklin had 17 points.

In the University tournament: Windward 79, Roybal 48; Price 78, Bell-Jeff 61; University 60, St. Bernard 59; Harvard-Westlake 94, Dorsey 64. Bryan Polan scored 30 points for Harvard-Westlake.

Stanford-bound Robert Cartwright had 19 points in his season debut in Flintridge Prep’s 68-29 win over Jefferson.

Cantwell-Sacred Heart (5-0) defeated Taft, 65-45. EJ Mejia had 17 points and Andrew Martinez 12.
