Baseball: Pitcher Matt Campbell is making progress

Share

When the summer is over, pitcher Matt Campbell of Simi Valley has a chance to be one of the success stories.

He was an all-league player for the Pioneers as a junior, going 6-3 with an 1.86 ERA. But during the summer, he has helped his college recruiting chances immensely. He was his team’s MVP in the North-South Series and he’s trying to make the Area Code Games roster for the Brewers.

He’s a 6-foot-5 right-hander still learning to throw strikes but getting better. UC Santa Barbara and Santa Clara have been recruiting him hardest, but Long Beach State, Cal State Fullerton, UC Irvine, UCLA and Cal Poly SLO are starting to pay attention.
