Baseball: Hart advances in VIBL playoffs with no-hitter
Newhall Hart has reached the quarterfinals of the VIBL playoffs thanks to a combined no-hitter by Josh Randall and Chad Haslock in a 9-0 victory over Royal on Tuesday. Pearson Good had four hits.
Hart will host surprising Calabasas in Thursday’s quarterfinals. Calabasas, under first-year Coach Thomas Cassidy, upset Agoura in the opening round and knocked off Loyola, 6-3, on Tuesday behind pitcher Tyler Howell.
El Camino Real outlasted Taft, 16-15, with Eric Yang getting four hits and four RBIs, including the game winner. El Camino Real will host Kennedy, which defeated Cleveland, 3-2. Shortstop Nick Rodriguez played well defensively for Kennedy.
Top-seeded Chatsworth defeated Granada Hills, 4-1. Josh Garcia threw four innings and Nico Switalla threw the final three innings.
Chatsworth will host Canyon Country Canyon, which defeated Birmingham, 6-5, in nine innings. Camarillo defeated Sherman Oaks Notre Dame, 15-6, and will play Saugus, a 3-1 winner over Crespi.
