Boys’ basketball: Long Beach Millikan upsets Compton, 101-90

Everything was set for a Wednesday night showdown to decide the Moore League championship between Compton and Long Beach Poly. Except Long Beach Millikan became the party pooper on Monday night with a 101-90 victory over Compton.

Malik Marquetti scored 21 points to help Millikan hand Compton its second league loss. Isaiah Bailey had 32 points for Compton. Poly is unbeaten in league play and looks headed to another league championship.

In the Suburban League, Mayfair (19-5, 9-0) held off La Mirada, 47-45.

In the Mission League, Michael Oguine scored 28 points in Chaminade’s 64-58 win over Harvard-Westlake. Derick Newton scored 22 points and Alex Copeland 16 for Harvard-Westlake. St. Francis defeated Crespi in overtime, 54-47. DJ Ursery led Crespi with 26 points. Kyle Leufroy had 14 points and John Carroll 11 for St. Francis, which is 15-7 and 4-4 in league.

Alemany defeated Sherman Oaks Notre Dame, 72-64. Brandon Boyd scored 24 points and Daron Henson 16. Chibueze Jacobs led Notre Dame with 15 points.

Robert Cartwright scored 30 points but Flintridge Prep was beaten by La Salle, 71-68, in overtime.

In the Western League, Fairfax defeated LACES, 82-59. Lorne Currie had 14 points and Olisaemeka Nwachie and Donld Gipson had 12 apiece. Palisades defeated Hamilton, 72-39. Westchester defeated Venice, 101-45. Nick Hamilton scored 23 points and Elijah Stewart 22.

In the Eastern League, Gerardo Zavala made a three-point shot as time expired to give South Gate a 57-56 victory over Garfield. Zavala finished with 24 points. Joshua Conde added 13 points.

In the East Valley League, Grant defeated Chavez, 66-49. Udy Ivazov finished with 19 points and 13 rebounds. Verdugo Hills stayed in first place with a 71-54 win over Monroe. Adrian Gutierrez had 24 points. Leoni Aleksan had 14 points and 10 rebounds.

In the West Valley League, El Camino Real defeated Birmingham, 72-38. Julian Richardson had 11 points and Blair Orr 10.

In the Coliseum League, Crenshaw defeated West Adams, 78-44.
