Boys’ basketball: Jordan McLaughlin leads Etiwanda past Rancho Cucamonga

First place was on the line on Friday night in the Baseline League, and Jordan McLaughlin came through for Etiwanda. He scored 26 points to help the Eagles (23-3, 8-0) defeat Rancho Cucamonga, 54-47.

Daylan Lawrence had 19 points and Victor Joseph 18 for Rancho Cucamonga (21-4, 6-2).

In the Trinity League, Mater Dei held only a three-point halftime lead but ended up with a 78-68 victory over St. John Bosco, improving to 25-0. Stanley Johnson finished with 29 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists. Rex Pflueger added 20 points. Tyler Dorsey led the Braves with 23 points and Daniel Hamilton had 22.

JSerra defeated Servite, 66-49. Santa Margarita defeated Orange Lutheran, 65-56. Sjur Berg had 16 points.

In the Del Rey League, Gardena Serra (18-7) had its 10-game winning streak come to end, losing to Bishop Montgomery, 65-51. Stephen Thompson Jr. scored 30 points for Bishop Montgomery (21-4), which is tied for first place in the Del Rey with the Cavaliers. Tavrion Dawson had 24 points for Serra, ranked No. 1 in Division 4AA.

In the Marmonte League, Calabasas defeated Royal, 69-54. Austin Smith scored 21 points, Conner Longmire 15 and Jeremy Lieberman 14. Nick Brandon scored 17 points for Royal. Aaron Haney set a school record for assists in a season with 77.

Westlake held off Thousand Oaks, 63-60. Isaiah Brooks had 17 of his 21 points in the second half. Marcos Soto made two free throw swith five seconds left. Matt Hauser had 19 points for Thousand Oaks. Newbury Park defeated Moorpark, 77-56. Tyler Cartaino scored 24 points.

In the Bay League, Redondo defeated West Torrance, 79-31. In the Camino Real League, Cathedral defeated St. Monica, 87-44. In the Sierra League, Chino Hills defeated Ayala, 87-56. In the Foothill League, Hart defeated Golden Valley, 79-68. Myles Franklin scored 21 points. Valencia defeated Canyon, 61-60.

In the Prep League, Flintridge Prep defeated Rio Hondo, 74-52. Kyle Hamane had 18 points and Robert Cartwright had 17 points and eight assists.

In the Pacific League, Crescenta Valley defeated Pasadena, 55-51. In the Tri-Valley League, Oaks Christian defeated Santa Clara, 85-35. Jordan Flannery finished with 23 points.

In the City Section, Westchester continued to roll in the Western League with a 65-38 win over Hamilton. Nick Hamilton had 21 points and 11 rebounds. Elijah Stewart had 13 points. University defeated Palisades, 68-59. Tre Weston finished with 15 oints and 11 rebounds.

In the West Valley League, El Camino Real routed host Taft, 83-52. Evan Wardlow and Julian Richardson each scored 20 points. Richardson made six three-pointers. Granada Hills defeated Birmingham, 60-52. Jacob Lilley contributed 19 points and nine assists. Serigne Athj had 28 points for Birmingham.

In the Coliseum League, Crenshaw defeated Locke, 83-62. In the Eastern League, South Gate took over sole possession of first place with a 57-53 win over Huntington Park. Gerardo Zavala scored 22 points, Josh Conde had 14 points and Mathew Pointer added 13 points and 12 rebounds.

In the East Valley League, Grant upset Poly, 67-61, in overtime. Sherman Cromartie sent the game into overtime with a basket with 15 seconds left in regulation. Daleshaun Jackson finished with 21 points. Udy Ivazov had 19 points and 14 rebounds. Cesar Reyes led Poly with 19 points. Verdugo Hills defeated North Hollywood, 81-45. Adrian Gutierrez scored 24 points.
