Boys’ basketball: Bear Henderson, Bennie Boatwright spark Village Christian

Share

Alemany fans should have been in the audience at Village Christian on Saturday night. They would have enjoyed the third quarter, when former Alemany players Bear Henderson and Bennie Boatwright combined to score all 18 of Village Christian’s points in a nonleague battle against Sylmar.

In the end, the duo was too much. Henderson finished with 25 points and Boatwright had 21 points and 18 rebounds in an 80-73 victory.

If there were a three-point shooting contest, Boatwright, a junior, would win going away. He had four threes on the night.

Sylmar (16-11) gave the Crusaders all they could handle for three quarters, trailing, 56-54. Sylmar made 10 three-pointers on the night. But Village Christian (19-4) went on an 11-0 run to start the fourth quarter to pull away. Chance Cole and Devenir Duruisseau each scored 18 points for Sylmar and Malcolm Wadlow had 14 points.

Marsalis Johnson added 15 points for Village Christian, which used Bryan Alberts briefly in the first half. He had two points.
