Earnie Sears, a 6-foot-4 basketball/track standout at Alemany, has coaches and classmates feeling proud and happy about his accomplishments.

The junior won the Southern Section Division 3 high jump championship on Saturday by clearing 7 feet.

Everyone has known about Sears’ leaping ability from basketball season.

“Oh man, it’s remarkable and shows what kind of athlete he is on the court,’ basketball Coach Tray Meeks said. “It’s awesome. His leaping ability has been a definite asset.”

Sears is still growing and should reach 6-5 by next basketball season. Meeks believes Sears can play basketball and participate in the high jump in college.

He’s still just 16 years old.
