Football: El Camino Real advances to first Division I semifinal since 1989

Share

El Camino Real is having a season to remember. The Conquistadores have advanced to their first City Section Division I football semifinal since 1989 after a 41-27 quarterfinal victory over Banning.

“It’s exciting,” Coach Jeff Falgien said. “It’s a great opportunity for the kids.”

Ladell Atkins scored four touchdowns and Cornelius Hawkins rushed for 208 yards.

But there is some uncertainty for the Conquistadores. ECR and Banning players got into a brawl. Six ECR players were ejected and won’t be able to play unbeaten Narbonne on Friday night. More players could miss the game depending whether they left the bench after a review of video.

The Conquistadores are 10-2. The other semifinal will have San Pedro at Dorsey.

In Division II, unbeaten Grant will play at unbeaten Hawkins and Los Angeles will host Westchester.

In Division III, it will be Chavez at Franklin and Hollywood at Reseda.

Correction: An earlier version of this blog had El Camino Real making the semifinals for the first time since 1980. It was 1989.
