Golf: Loyola wins Central Division title

Los Angeles Loyola has won five consecutive Commissioner’s Cups, signifying it as the top athletic program in the Southern Section, and the Cubs added another title on Monday, winning the Central Division golf championship at Canyon Crest Country Club.

Loyola shot 367. Sophomore Brandon Bueno led the way with a 70. Senior Daniel Lopez shot 72. Harvard-Westlake finished second. It was Loyola’s third consecutive golf title.

Los Alamitos won the Southern Division at Mile Square Golf Course with a score of 365. Long Beach Wilson was second at 367.

The top two teams advance to the SCGA qualifying tournament on May 27 at Mission Lakes Country Club.

Ellis Tirado shot 69 and Jonathan Young had a 70 to lead Los Alamitos.

In the South Coast Division at Talega Golf Club, Beckman won the title with a 374 and Tesoro was at 376. Jack Ireland shot 69 for Tesoro.

In the Eastern Division at Jurupa Hills, Ontario Christian (365) captured the title over Riverside Poly (373). Yu-Chuan Hsiang shot 67 and Shawn Tsai shot 68 for Ontario Christian. Tristan Stone shot 67 for Poly.

In the Central Coast Division at Cypress Ridge, Ventura won the championship with a 397. Oaks Christian finished second at 402.

Westlake won the Northern Division at Soule Park with a score of 362 and La Canada was second at 375. Spencer Soosman of Westlake shot a 66.
