USC will host summit on issues surrounding 7-on-7 football

One year after hosting a “summit” designed to help college administrators understand and manage issues regarding agents, USC on Tuesday will sponsor a symposium related to issues surrounding rapidly growing 7-on-7 football.

The invitation-only event, titled “The impact of 7-on-7 organizations on college football recruiting,” will be held at the Galen Center and will include athletic directors, compliance officials, coaches, members of the NCAA’s enforcement staff and representatives from the Pac-12, Big 12, Big Ten and Southeastern conferences, a USC release said.

Last year, Andy Staples of SI.com iwrote about how 7-on-7 football was on the road to mirroring youth basketball.

“Obviously, 7-on-7 football is a hot-button topic,” USC Athletic Director Pat Haden said in a statement. “We decided to organize this summit so that we can pick the brains of our peers throughout the Pac-12 and other conferences and also hear from those at the NCAA level, from the operators of 7-on-7 organizations and from the high school level.

“Our goal is to provide a constructive dialogue and exchange of ideas between all of the participants and to come up with some practical suggestions to improve the situation.”
