USC football: Lane Kiffin to announce starting quarterback Monday
USC’s search for a starting quarterback apparently is over.
Coach Lane Kiffin said Sunday night that he would announce the starter after meeting Monday with Cody Kessler and Max Wittek.
Kessler and Wittek, both third-year sophomores, split time during the Trojans’ season-opening victory at Hawaii and in Saturday’s 10-7 loss to Washington State.
In two games, with appearances that totaled just more than four quarters, Kessler has completed 18 of 32 passes for 136 yards and a touchdown, with two interceptions. He also rushed for a touchdown.
Wittek has completed eight of 18 passes for 90 yards with one interception.
Kiffin said that “ideally” freshman Max Browne would redshirt and compete for the starting job in the spring.
