Cavs point guard Kyrie Irving said he has been running for the last three weeks, but is not allowed to participate in two-a-days after suffering a fractured kneecap in Game 1 of the NBA Finals against the Golden State Warriors.tmpplchld The Cavs, who lost to the Warriors, 4-2, open practice Tuesday at Cleveland Clinic Courts and start the season Oct. 27 in Chicago. Irving underwent surgery on June 6.tmpplchld “Because of the state of my knee, we don’t want it to flare up or have any setbacks,” Irving said. “It’s about getting better and not missing one day. If that means going seven days a week ... that’s what I’ve been doing for the last month and a half is trying not to miss any time, but we have to be smart about it.”tmpplchld Irving said Monday during Cavs Media Day at Cleveland Clinic Courts that there is no set timetable for his return.tmpplchld “Definitely progressing the way I want to. There’s no set timetable, no day I’m shooting for right now,” Irving said. “The reports that are coming out, everyone becomes a doctor, everyone has specialists that they know. For me it’s just about getting better every single day and being here for my teammates and doing the right things I need to do to be ready and 100 percent when I actually do come back.”tmpplchld While rehabbing in the offseason, Irving said he watched a lot of film of himself.tmpplchld “The positive, especially for me from a mental aspect but more or less from a physical standpoint is I don’t play above the rim. I’m not a lot faster than anybody else, I don’t blow anybody’s mind in terms of my game speed,” he said.tmpplchld “For it’s just about fine tuning, utilizing a lot more outside shots that I can create, not only for myself, but for my teammates. Being more technical in terms of my footwork and limiting the amount of dribbles I have per possession in order for me to get shots off.”tmpplchld He said he’s also thought about how he can better and avoid injuries.tmpplchld “Going to the basket, (not) falling on the floor as much. I enjoy finishing around the big men, but I’m honestly trying to stay off the floor,” he said.tmpplchld Watching the Finals from the bench, Irving was asked if he felt more anger or resolve now to take the Cavs to the next level.tmpplchld “It will be a lot of both,” he said. “For me it would be a lot more rage and a lot more emotion going out there. There won’t be too much smiling or anything like that from our team. We know the mentality we have to have.”tmpplchld ___tmpplchld (c)2015 Akron Beacon Journal (Akron, Ohio)tmpplchld Visit the Akron Beacon Journal (Akron, Ohio) at www.ohio.comtmpplchld Distributed by Tribune Content Agency, LLC.tmpplchld
