Philadelphia Eagles fire Coach Andy Reid after 14 seasons
The NFL’s longest-tenured head coach is now out of a job.
Andy Reid has been fired after 14 seasons with Philadelphia, the Eagles announced Monday, a move that was long anticipated.
Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie will hold a press conference at 9 a.m. Pacific time to discuss the decision to part ways with Reid, who steered the franchise to six NFC East titles, five NFC championship games and a Super Bowl appearance. Reid’s 140 victories is a club record, ranking him 22nd on the NFL’s all-time list.
The Eagles finished this season 4-12, losing their finale to the New York Giants, 42-7.
Lurie said Reid “is someone I respect greatly and will remain friends with for many years to come.”
“But it is time for the Eagles to move in a new direction. Andy leaves with us a winning tradition that we can build upon. And we’re very excited about the future.”
Lurie said the search for a new coach will begin immediately.
