Supreme Court upholds tax levy that Ducey wouldn’t collect
The Arizona Supreme Court won’t overturn an appeals court ruling that says a helicopter tour company owes the state nearly $700,000 in back taxes that Gov. Doug Ducey had ordered the state not to collect.
The Republican governor in April ordered the Department of Revenue not to collect the money from Grand Canyon tour operator Papillon Airways Inc. after vetoing a bill letting Papillon off the hook.
Ducey spokesman Daniel Scarpinato said Wednesday the court ruling will now be implemented.
The Supreme Court left in place a January Court of Appeals ruling that said Papillon and companies it leased helicopters from owed the taxes.
Papillon lobbied the Legislature to pass the bill Ducey vetoed. The governor said at the time that he wants the bill revised next year.
