Las Vegas: Warhol show at Bellagio extended through Jan. 2

The Bellagio exhibit featuring the pop art of Andy Warhol has been extended through Jan. 2, with new works coming online next month.

The show at Bellagio Gallery of Fine Art titled “Warhol Out West,” offers a chance to see 59 of his famous pieces without having to travel to his namesake museum in Pittsburgh, his birthplace.

Warhol is probably best known for the famous people and consumer products he painted during the ‘60s. Three works from what is possibly his best-known series — paintings of Campbell’s soup cans — are among those on display. His unconventional portraits of Elvis Presley and Elizabeth Taylor also are included.

Paintings from a lesser-known series of Warhol’s work called “Cowboys and Indians” are featured as well. Like his other works, these images from the American West were created with Warhol’s flair for and appreciation of popular culture.

Beginning Aug. 1, four additional works created as advertising art in 1985 will join the collection. They include an image of Judy Garland wearing a Blackglama, a distinctive, dark mink coat

“We hope visitors to the gallery think about the relationship of the images in front of them with the landscape of Las Vegas, from the kitsch to the fabulous and everything in between,” Eric Shiner, director of the Andy Warhol Museum, said in a statement. “Whether Elvis, Liz, Campbell’s Soup or a Brillo box, Warhol’s subjects represent America in all of its many guises.”

Tickets cost $16 for adults and $11 for students. Children 12 and younger are free. The admission price includes an audio tour. Docent tours, at no extra charge, are offered at 2 p.m. daily.
