Grumpy Cat, soon to be a movie star, will appear at Book Expo

Who is the king of all media? It just might be Grumpy Cat.

The wildly popular, eternally frowning kitty has already conquered the Internet: She was Meme of the Year at the 2013 Webbys (take that, Psy). On Thursday, she signed a movie deal with the Hollywood producers behind “Paul Blart Mall Cop” and Adam Sandler’s “Jack and Jill.” And Friday she’ll appear at 3 p.m. at Book Expo in New York City to promote “Grumpy Cat: A Grumpy Book,” coming from Chronicle Books in October.

Fans may want to queue up early at Chronicle Books’ booth, which can be found on the lower level of the Javits Center in space No. 739. The payoff? A photo-op with the meme-friendly feline.

Chronicle Books promises that “Grumpy Cat: A Grumpy Book” will include snarky put-downs, “fun” activities, and classic quips. Some of those will be the memes featuring Grumpy Cat’s face and withering comments like “I am disappointed by your lack of sales.”

Grumpy Cat was born April 4, 2012, somewhere in Arizona, a mixed breed with an uneven pattern to her coat that led to the name Tardar Sauce, which has mostly been supplanted by Grumpy Cat. She belongs to Tabatha Bundesen and her family; her brother posted photos of the kitty on Reddit, and it turned out they were irresistible. Like Internet catnip, you might say.

We’d love to see photos with Grumpy Cat. If you stop in for the photo op, send them over.
