Video: ‘Paper Towns’ trailer: John Green’s next movie project debuts

Last summer, the adaptation of John Green’s YA novel “The Fault In Our Stars” was a huge hit at the box office, eventually tallying more than $300 million. This summer comes the next -- but unrelated -- John Green adaptation, “Paper Towns.”

On Thursday the first trailer for the movie debuted -- watch it above. Starring Nat Wolff (who also appeared in “The Fault In Our Stars”) and model-turned-actress Cara Delevingne, the movie tells the story of high school senior Quentin “Q” Jacobsen who’s had a thing for his impossibly cool neighbor, Margo Roth Spiegelman, since they were kids.

As the trailer shows, he watches her from afar until she enlists him in an outlaw escapade -- then disappears. Q and his friends set out to find her.

“One of the reasons I write for teens is it’s a real privilege to have a seat at the table in the lives of young people when they’re figuring out what matters to them,” Green told the L.A. Times’ Sue Carpenter in 2012.

“Teenagers have more intense reading experiences because they’ve had fewer of them,” he added. “It’s like the first time you fall in love. You have a connection to that first person you fell in love with because it was so intense and unprecedented.”

Green’s online engagement with his fans -- on Tumblr, Twitter, the Vlogbrothers video series with his brother Hank, and their crowdfunding nonprofit, Project for Awesome -- contributed to his receiving the L.A. Times Innovators Award at the book prizes in 2014.
