Jaguar to debut all-new F-Type Coupe at L.A. Auto Show

Share

Despite a climate that favors open-top motoring, Jaguar has announced it will use the 2013 Los Angeles Auto Show to debut to the world its all-new F-Type Coupe.

The coupe that will debut on Nov. 20 will be a fixed-roof variant of the F-Type roadster that Jaguar put on sale earlier this year. The coupe will go on sale in spring 2014.

“We’ve been overwhelmed by the positive reaction to F-Type Convertible,’ Ian Callum, Jaguar’s director of design said in a statement. “But for me, the purity of creating a sports coupe is a uniquely satisfying process. I know that both visually and dynamically, F-Type Coupe raises the bar yet again.”

Jaguar didn’t disclose details on what will make the F-Type Coupe move, but don’t expect big changes from the roadster lineup. This means either a 340- or 380-horsepower supercharged V-6, or a 495-horsepower V-8 will be your likely choices.

An eight-speed automatic transmission is bolted to those engines, with a manual gearbox a probability at some point in this model’s lifespan. While purists may scoff at using an automatic in a high-performance car like this, our test of the F-Type convertible in May found the gearbox to be one of the quickest and most capable on the market.

The coupe’s pricing remains another unknown, but don’t expect much of a difference between the roadster. That model starts around $70,000 for the base V-6, and can top out around $100,000 for the V-8 model if you work hard on the options.

The 2013 L.A. Auto Show is open to the media on Nov. 20 and 21. It will be open to the public from Nov. 22 through Dec. 1.
