• Rating sites such as Greenopia.com and GreenerChoices.com from Consumer Reports can help sift through products that are truly green and the ones that are just “greenwashed.”

• Instead of sending your fried laptop or your ancient television to a landfill, find e-cycling programs through the Environmental Protection Agency at epa.gov/ecycling or the Telecommunications Industry Assn. at ecyclingcentral.com.

•If you’re looking for an eco-friendly complex, GreenRenter.com ranks apartment communities based on their green features, location and eco-friendly offerings.
