Amber Hills, the onetime ranch of film stars Dick Powell and June Allyson in Brentwood, has sold for $14.6 million. The buyer, however, paid 10% more for the privilege of purchasing through an auction.

The compound had its own star turn in the late 1970s and early 1980s. The exterior of the main house was used as a scene setter for the TV series “Hart to Hart” starring Robert Wagner and Stefanie Powers.

A gated quarter-mile tree-lined drive leads to the 12,000-square-foot house. There are also guest houses, a lake, a tennis court, a tennis pavilion, a caretaker’s cabin, a workshop/maintenance building and a well on the 48-acre site.

Vistas include the Santa Monica Mountains and the ocean.

The compound was owned by philanthropist Glorya Kaufman, the widow of Donald Kaufman who founded the home-building company Kaufman & Broad with Eli Broad. Today the firm is called KB Home.

Powell, who died in 1963 at 58, got his start in musicals as a youth. He went on to leading man roles in such films as “Murder, My Sweet” (1944) and “Pitfall” (1948), worked in radio and was a founder of the Four Star Television production company.

Allyson, who died in 2006 at 88, starred in “Two Girls and a Sailor” (1944), “Good News” (1947) and “Little Women” (1947). They were married in 1945.

The auction was conducted by Concierge Auctions in conjunction with Jeff Hyland and Marcie Hartley of Hilton & Hyland/Christie’s International Real Estate and John A. Woodward IIII of Keller Williams.
