A plot of land owned by longtime San Diego Padres closer Trevor Hoffman is for sale in Rancho Santa Fe for $2.699 million.

Spanning nearly three acres, the parcel offers 280-degree views of the surrounding orange groves, hills and the private golf course at The Bridges country club. The property is pre-approved for a building area of 25,600 square feet, with the potential for an additional 9,400 square feet, according to listing notes.

Hoffman, who owns other property in the area as well as Orange County, paid $3.1 million for the property in 2007, records show. Joseph Martelli of Joseph Martelli Real Estate Investments Inc. is the listing agent.

Regarded as one of baseball’s premier closers in the ‘90s and 2000s, Hoffman made seven All-Star teams across 18 seasons with the Padres and Brewers. His 601 career saves rank second only to Mariano Rivera’s all-time mark of 652.

The 47-year-old is among the leading candidates eligible for the Hall of Fame Class of 2016.
