Facebook revealed a new design for its news feed feature Thursday, but some on the Web said they'd already seen that design on another social network: Google+.
Facebook’s revealing of the new News Feed and separate user interest-based Feed is a big change for not only users, but also advertisers. The new design will highlight and enlarge the stories and images within the News Feed-- great for users, not-so-good for advertisers who don’t adjust their approach. Before the redesign, stories comprised less than 40% of the real estate of the home page and ads were a big part of that leftover 60%. While the ads still remain, they are pushed below the personalized content of the user-created News Feeds. But all is not lost. Because users now have more control over the organization and content of what they see, they have a distinct path to choose if they want to view a brand’s content. Generating high-quality content that is geared toward user interests and needs is absolutely necessary for a brand to take advantage of this new layout – and incentivize users to engage with their brand.
