Google sells out of 16 GB Nexus 7
Google has sold out of the 16 GB Nexus 7.
The $249, 7-inch tablet can no longer be purchased from the Google Play store, and I don’t mean there’s a long wait for it -- Google simply won’t let you place an order for the device at all.
Rather, all you can do at this point is sign up to be notified when the higher-end Nexus 7 will become available once again.

Meanwhile, the 8 GB Nexus 7 is available and does not appear to have an irregular shipping time. Google will even let you purchase up to five 8 GB Nexus 7s at once.
Google hasn’t commented on whether or not the device is sold out, but the Guardian has said Google “seriously underestimated” the demand for the 16 GB Nexus 7, according to sources close to the company.
The reason for the craze in demand may be that people are unwilling to rely on the cloud for their content on the 8 GB Nexus 7. Though the Nexus 7 is a good device, it can become almost useless without an Internet connection, and some across the Web have said the Nexus 7’s biggest flaw is that there is no 32 GB version.
Many of Google’s retail partners also list the 16 GB Nexus 7 as sold out or on back order online. Sears, though, appears to still be selling the device and actually has it discounted to $237.49.
And as we were beginning to see last week, the demand for the Nexus 7 has pushed up its price on EBay, where at least one unit of the 16 GB device is listed for twice as much as its Google Play sticker price.
[Updated, 11:17 a.m. July 23, : A Google spokeswoman said that 16 GB units of the Nexus 7 are coming soon, echoing what Google lists on its Play store, as shown in the picture above. She also said content on the Nexus 7 can be pinned or downloaded for offline use.]
