Twitter stops displaying names of third-party tweet services
Twitter has stopped displaying the names of third-party services used to send tweets.
This means you will no longer see that tweets on Twitter’s website and mobile app have been sent from services such as Tweet-bot, Seesmic, HootSuite and others. Don’t worry, you’ll still be able to use those services to send tweets, but those third-party services will be hurting because Twitter has dramatically cut their visibility.
The change is part of a continuing effort by Twitter to direct focus at its official platforms after long embracing third-party services.
The San Francisco company said it already made the change to its mobile app, but it is now applying the change to its website as well.
“This is part of our ongoing work to simplify Tweets and emphasize the content being shared,” according to Twitter spokeswoman Christina Thiry.
The move was the latest in a series of changes by Twitter to build what it has called a more “core Twitter consumption experience” for its users.
Last week, the company cut off Tumblr, a competing social network, from letting its users import their friends from Twitter -- the same thing it did to Instagram this year.
Similarly, Twitter told LinkedIn this summer that it could no longer display users’ tweets on its social network.
At the same time, Twitter has been introducing new features that emphasize content visible on its official platforms.
