The Metropolitan Opera's Live in HD series will start offering discounted student tickets at select movie theaters starting this season. The first broadcast of the 2012-13 season is Saturday, with a live transmission of Donizetti's "The Elixir of Love," starring Anna Netrebko.
In Southern California, the cinema venues that will offer discounted student rates include the Cinemark North Hollywood 8, Rave Motion Pictures 18 in L.A., Cinemark 14 in Long Beach, Cinemark Orange Stadium Promenade 25, Cinemark Huntington Beach 20, Cinemark 22 in Lancaster, Cinemark Antelope Valley Mall, Cinemark 16 Victorville and the Cinemark Jess Ranch in Apple Valley.
Ticket prices for the Met: Live in HD screenings vary by venue. Cinemark said student tickets will generally be $5 below the regular adult admission of $24. The discount also applies to encore broadcasts. Valid student identification is required to purchase the tickets.
Saturday's live broadcast is scheduled to begin at 9:55 a.m. PDT. The opera is broadcast from the stage of the Metropolitan Opera in New York.
Other broadcasts scheduled for the season include Verdi's "Otello," starring Renee Fleming, on Oct. 27; Thomas Adès' "The Tempest" on Nov. 10; and Mozart's "La Clemenza di Tito" on Dec. 1.
