Wal-Mart gives customers early screening of ‘Man of Steel’
The nation’s leading seller of DVDs and Blu-ray discs will offer customers access to an advance screening of the new Superman movie, “Man of Steel.”
Wal-Mart, in partnership with Warner Bros. Pictures, will begin selling tickets at 8 a.m. on May 18 to the special showing of the film. Customers can purchase as many as four tickets each for the 7 p.m. June 13 screening of the movie at one of 2,379 local theaters.
“Man of Steel,” starring Henry Cavill in the role of Clark Kent/Superman, officially opens at midnight on June 14.
“We know that our customers love movies -- they’ve told us that time and again,” said Brent Duwe, Wal-Mart’s director of entertainment merchandising in the U.S. “We started working with Warner Bros. on how we can provide a unique experience for our customers.”
For Warner Bros., the partnership provides a new way to build anticipation for the forthcoming film, directed by Zack Snyder and co-written and co-produced by Christopher Nolan, of Warner Bros.’ “Dark Knight” trilogy fame.
Wal-Mart will display “Man of Steel” signs and cardboard cutouts throughout more than 3,700 stores, providing a frequent reminder to the millions of customers who shop at Wal-Mart each week. Superman merchandise tied to the film will also go on sale, beginning April 28.
“Just in terms of the amount of people who walk into Wal-Mart, if they’re there to buy the ticket or not, they’ll be exposed to the ‘Man of Steel,’” said Dan Fellman, Warner Bros. Pictures president of domestic distribution.
Customers who purchase a ticket to the advance screening also will receive a code that allows them to pre-order a Blu-ray combination pack or digital download of “Man of Steel,” which will contain exclusive content. They’ll also receive a free original digital comic book written by the film’s screenwriter, David Goyer.
