Naomi Watts to be honored at Palm Springs film festival
Naomi Watts is set to receive the Desert Palm Achievement Actress Award at the Palm Springs International Film Festival awards gala on Jan. 5 at the Palm Springs Convention Center.
Watts, who came to fame in David Lynch’s 2001 “Mulholland Drive” and earned a lead actress Oscar nod for the 2003 drama “21 Grams,” stars in “The Impossible,” opening Dec. 21. She plays the mother of a family caught in the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami.
“We are delighted to pay tribute to Naomi Watts, one of the most gifted and versatile performers to grace the screen,” festival chairman Harold Matzner said in a statement Monday.
Past recipients of this award include Halle Berry, Marion Cotillard, Anne Hathaway and Natalie Portman. Watts was previously honored at the film festival for her performance in “21 Grams.”
The film festival runs Jan. 3-14.
