Lady Gaga on Madonna ‘gossip,’ her solution for her hip pain

Lady Gaga is opening up about her “feud” with Madonna and her habitual drug use following a debilitating hip injury that saw her cancel the remainder of her “Born This Way” tour earlier this year.

The revelations come by way of Britain’s Attitude magazine, which asserts that it got Mother Monster’s only U.K. interview ahead of the Monday release of her upcoming album, “Artpop.”

The theatrical pop star, real name Stefani Germanotta, disclosed quite a few tidbits about her personal life and struggles in the interview, as well as comparisons to and criticisms of Madonna.

“Born This Way’s” similarity to Madonna’s 1989 hit “Express Yourself” caused a media frenzy and Madge seemingly added insult to injury when she decided to cover Gaga’s song while she was performing in Tel Aviv. Or maybe it was her form of flattery, who knows.

“I have to be really honest, I was completely kind of floored that Madonna was singing my song on her stage every night!” she said (via GagaDaily). “I mean, Madonna’s … she’s Madonna. I looked up to her for a long time. I’m not quite sure what her intention was -- to do that in the show, but I don’t really care.”

Gaga has previously said that she emulated the pop heavyweight, but in an ABC interview, the Material Girl called the song “reductive.”

“I think playing into the gossip of the tabloids and, I guess the fodder of the competition, that’s just not what I’m about,” Gaga said. “She chooses to use her voice the way she chooses to use hers and I choose to use mine the way I use mine.”

Instead of being upset, the upcoming outer-space performer said she was flattered by the move.

“All it meant to me was that Madonna Ciccone was singing my song on her stage and I’m 27,” she added. “And as a punk-rocker from New York, I’ve basically been hoping that I would become so good that one day I would piss off Madonna!”

Last month, the singer also addressed the reported Madonna feud upon the release of her single “Do What U Want,” tweeting at her detractors who believed that Madonna hated her and believed her star power had dulled.

“i dont need anybodys permission to be remembered. I will be. Whether they like it or not,” she wrote, sharing a YouTube video of Madonna talking about Gaga’s references to her.

The Grammy-winning singer also explained how she coped with her hip injury, which resulted in the pop star undergoing surgery in February and taking a hiatus from performing until she recovered.

She said she smoked a whole lot of pot, according to the Attitude magazine.

“I was smoking 15 joints a day,” she said in the article. “It was a habit that eventually occurred when the pain got so bad with the hip.

“I was just numbing, numbing, numbing myself then sleeping it off, then getting on stage, killing it in pain, then getting off and smoking, smoking, smoking, not knowing what the pain was. ... if I know what hurts the most, you know? I would break the habit and it would sneak back in and I would break it and sneak back in.”

That’s when she turned to performance artist and friend Marina Abramovic to overcome her addiction through an unorthodox detox in the woods.

“Marina said, ‘OK, you’re coming to my house — no television, no computer, no marijuana, no nothing, no food. For three days, art only. You eat only art,’” Gaga said. “She put me in the woods for three hours blindfolded and said, ‘I need you to find your way home. We will be here silent to make sure you don’t fall off any cliffs.’ There were cliffs all around.”

Does that method have anything to do with this befuddling video released in August of a nude Gaga frolicking in the woods?

Anyway, the treatment worked and she said in the Attitude article that she’s cut down her marijuana usage to “a little bit at night just, you know, for fun. But not to cope — that’s the difference. I’m the soberest I’ve ever been in the past five years.”

Gaga also touched upon her iconic status in the LGBT community and confirming her bisexual status, the mag said in its promotional blog post.

“I never said I was a gay icon,” she said. “I am not nearly as protective of my fame as I am protective of my fans and their justice as LGBT youth.”
