Royal family releases Prince George portrait ahead of his second birthday

Prince George is turning 2 on Wednesday and the royal family has released a new image of the tiny prince to celebrate his birthday.

The third in line to the British throne is featured in a portrait with dad Prince William, the Duke of Cambridge, that was taken by photographer Mario Testino at Princess Charlotte’s christening on July 5.

“Look who’s turning two tomorrow! #‎HappyBirthdayPrinceGeorge,” the palace wrote on its official Facebook account.

The sun-bathed outtake shows the rambunctious little royal flashing his toothy grin while leaning into the foreground (and out of Dad’s arms). Wills is smiling at his predicament in the background.

“It captures a very happy moment on what was a special day for The Duke and Duchess and their family. They are very pleased to share this picture as they celebrate Prince George’s second birthday,” the palace said.

The image, taken in the gardens at Sandringham House, is a variation of the black-and-white portrait showing future monarchs together released the day after the baptism. The adorable royal wore a smocked set from Rachel Riley that was nearly identical to one Wills wore around the same age when he stepped out with his then-day-old brother Prince Harry for the first time in 1984.

William and Catherine are expected to celebrate their firstborn’s birthday with a private party at their Norfolk home Anmer Hall on the Queen’s country estate, according to the BBC. The family of four is living there while William settles into his new job as an East Anglian Air Ambulance helicopter pilot.
