Hollywood Bowl getting a new caterer starting in 2016

Dining under the stars at the Hollywood Bowl will come with a new flavor starting next summer.

The Los Angeles Philharmonic, which manages the summer venue, announced Monday a 10-year contract with Sodexo Leisure, in partnership with Los Angeles-based culinary company the Lucques Group, to provide exclusive food and restaurant services throughout the Hollywood Bowl.

The new contract starts in the 2016 summer season and covers in-seat dining, picnic eating as well as on-site restaurants. A spokesman for the L.A. Phil said the Patina Restaurant Group will no longer be providing food and restaurant services at the Bowl starting next summer.

Patina’s contract at the Bowl started in 2000, according to the L.A. Phil. The company currently provides food services at the Music Center in downtown Los Angeles.

Sodexo Leisure said it is aiming to improve the level of service at the Bowl. The France-based multinational Sodexo specializes in food services and building management.

“We’re certainly looking to raise the hospitality standards. We’re also looking to introduce some new things and bring some of what the Lucques Group serves at their restaurants to the Bowl,” said Steve DiPrima, president of Sodexo Leisure, in an interview on Monday.

He said Sodexo will be working with Lucques to revise menus, wine lists and to make “significant investments” in concession areas. “We’re marrying our expertise in high-end, high-volume, with their culinary expertise and local knowledge,” said DiPrima.

Sodexo Leisure provides culinary services at the Huntington Library in San Marino and the Detroit Institute of Arts in Michigan.

The Lucques Group opened its flagship restaurant Lucques in West Hollywood in 1998. The company also operates A.O.C., Tavern and other restaurants in the L.A. area, as well as catering and dining services. The group is headed by chef Suzanne Goin and sommelier-owner Caroline Styne.

“This partnership will carry on the time-honored tradition of dining at the Bowl while providing concert-goers with enhanced choices that are completely unique to this venue,” said Gail Samuel, executive director of the L.A. Phil, in a release Monday.
