It's only a rock 'n' roll festival, but evidently they don't like it.
Despite a series of suggestions to the contrary, the Rolling Stones will not play the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, according to Rolling Stone magazine, which cited a source "close to the band" late Friday night.
Speculation about the legendary British group's visit to the desert began in December after the Stones' mobile app showed a listing for a mid-April concert date in Indio, where Coachella takes place at the Empire Polo Club. (This year's edition of the show will run April 12-14 and repeat the following weekend, April 19-21.)
Then this month, Coachella posted a photo to its Facebook page that seemed to depict a large round rock in the middle of a field.
Yet it appears that the Stones booking -- which would have followed recent performances at the festival by other legacy rockers such as Paul McCartney and Roger Waters -- was not meant to be.
That said, Coachella isn't out of the heritage business entirely: This week, Billboard reported that Rodriguez, the 70-year-old Detroit musician featured in the Oscar-nominated documentary "Searching for Sugar Man," will perform at the festival.
The official lineup is expected to be announced this month.
