Pasion Vega, JotDog join Latin Grammys pre-telecast ceremony

The list of velvet-rope names who’ll be performing, hosting tributes or providing paparazzi fodder at the Latin Grammy Awards in Las Vegas this week keeps growing.

The latest to sign on are Pasión Vega, the Latin Grammy-nominated Spanish singer, who’ll be co-hosting the 13th annual Latin Grammy pre-telecast ceremony. That’s for all of you who want to start tuning into Thursday’s festivities several hours before the actual 8 p.m. awards ceremony, which will be broadcast on the Univision Network.

Vega’s onstage backup at the House of Blues inside the Mandalay Bay Hotel and Casino will include Amaury Gutiérrez, the Mexico City pop band JotDog, Gian Marco and -- here’s the surprise -- the Cuartetango String Quartet.

Actually, the Latin Grammys lately have been making a serious pitch to the black-tie segment of their listeners. Gustavo Dudamel, the Venezuelan musical director and principal conductor of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, opened last year’s Latin Grammys with a stirring symphonic performance by Venezuela’s Orquesta Sinfónica Simón Bolivar of Calle 13’s hit song “Latinoamerica.”
