MUSIC

Best Coast Bethany Cosentino, one of L.A.’s most promising and disarming new songwriters as part of Best Coast, is on a whiplash ascent to national fame. She has a dozen immaculate, three-minute hits that would keep Carole King up at night; 17,000 Twitter followers who ravenously await updates on the exploits of Snacks, her album-cover-star cat; and a streak of the same dreamy, iconic California-ness that’s pulled people west for more than a century. Getty Center, 1200 Getty Center Drive, L.A. 6 p.m. Free. Getty.edu.

Nellie McKay Taking on the role that won Susan Hayward an Oscar, Nellie McKay in her latest musical project gives voice to the lying, scheming Barbara Graham, the third woman to die in the gas chamber in California at San Quentin in 1955. “I Want to Live!” is a noir bad-girl tale, replete with prison lesbianism, so prepare to be scandalized. Catalina Bar & Grill, 6725 Sunset Blvd. 8 p.m. $20. (323) 466-2210.

40 Years of Building the Pacific Asia Museum Collection The exhibition offers a rare opportunity to view some of the key objects in the museum’s collection of 15,000 works, some of which are not often displayed due to their light sensitivity — an ideal way to mark the museum’s 40th anniversary. The 50 objects in the exhibition span 1,200 years and represent regions from across Asia and the Pacific. Pacific Asia Museum, 46 N. Los Robles Ave., Pasadena. $7-$9; members and children 11 and younger, free. (626) 449-2742. https://www.pacificasiamuseum.org.

Kirsten Everberg The Los Angeles-based painter Kirsten Everberg returns to 1301PE for her fourth solo show at the gallery, an exhibition of paintings inspired by her experiences in the city. Everberg’s work will be on view through Aug. 27. 1301PE Gallery, 6150 Wilshire Blvd., L.A. 6-8 p.m. Free. (323) 938-5822. https://www.1301pe.com.
